What is a simple machine? Just Ask us!
This week we learned all about different simple machines. Some of these simple machines are the lever, pulley, wedge, screw, wheel, axle and inclined plane. We decided to put our brains to use and make our own simple machine- the result...A MARSHMALLOW SLINGSHOT!!!! Do you want to make one at home? Here are the materials you will need....
1. Fill a cup with marshmallows.
2. Attach a spoon to the cup with a rubber band.
3. Put the marshmallow on spoon
4. Pull the spoon back and fling forward!
Whitney and Matt Foley came in to share with us their own inventions! Static Schematic and Fizoos are two innovative and exciting new ideas! We even got to make our very OWN Fizoos with modeling clay. The original prototype!!
We've been busy learning about all kinds of problem solving solutions and great inventions that were made by mistake or even by kids! Can you believe it? Check out these kid inspired inventions!
I bet you didn't know that the post it note was invented by accident? Watch this presentation on the research we did on Post It Notes :)
Enjoy pictures, info and memories from our year! Keep up with all the fun things we're doing in first grade!
